The Shift Supervisor of Residential Support Staff at Homeless Solutions, Inc. is responsible for onsite supervision of the day-to-day activities of the residential support staff of the agency. Additionally, this role will be providing client services to assist in the safe and effective operation of our Shelter facilities. This role is an on-site, full time, hourly, non-exempt position reporting to the Shelter Administrator. This role will encompass a broad level of responsibilities and experience working with the clients in our Main Shelter, as well as supporting the operations of our seasonal Warming Center. Ideal candidates will appreciate the opportunity to gain hands on experience in the field of social services and direct care for vulnerable populations, while assisting in the progress of our clients from a place of homelessness to independence and appropriate living environments

Duties and Responsibilities will include working with Case Management Staff to understand the individual needs and services for shelter clients to best facilitate their success in our programs, as well as:

  1. Routine paperwork.
    • Daily census/attendance sheets
    • Chore lists
    • Transportation lists
    • Communication log and Daily Flow report
    • Oversight of medication books and records.
  2. Provide and/or supervise on shift staff in physical and client related tasks which include:
    • Enforce basic hygiene of clients.
    • Conduct drug and alcohol testing.
    • Conduct searches for contraband.
    • Distribute and record medicine administration.
    • Performed regularly scheduled security checks
    • Monitor approved smoking area.
    • Monitor rooms/common area nightly for cleanliness.
    • Assign chores and supervise completion.
    • Provide and supervise guest transportation.
    • Perform and supervise regular basic cleaning protocols to facilitate a healthy physical environment.
  3. Other responsibilities include:
    • Assist Volunteers and the Volunteer Manager at meal times and/or prepare meals when necessary.
    • Cross train with Transitional Housing Residential Support Staff to provide coverage when needed.
    • Provide clerical assistance for programs in support of case management staff as requested
    • Contact police, fire and rescue personnel in an emergency. Serve as first point of contact for emergency personnel, outside agencies and management in the event of emergencies occurring on shift.
    • Refer all Media to HSI CEO.
  4. Staff supervision:
    • Train new Residential Support staff and interns to promote accountability and sound independent decision making in trainees.
    • Ensure shifts are fully staffed and provide emergency coverage when needed.
    • Serve as liaison between RSS and Case Management staff, meeting regularly with Division Managers in order to ensure effective operations and seamless communication between staff members.
  5. Participate in staff meetings and in service training.
  6. Exhibit strong personal accountability and awareness of and adherence to company standards, policies, procedures and processes in all aspects of employment with HSI.
  7. Clearly communicate issues, concerns or recommendations regarding clients or operational issues to the Shelter Administrator, Supportive Housing Administrator or Case Management Staff.
  8. Respond professionally to the need for flexibility in response to organizational changes.

Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma
  2. Minimum one-year Residential living environment/ Support work experience.
  3. Knowledge, skills and abilities
    a. Valid driver’s license
    b. Good oral, written and basic computer skills
    c. Clean driving record and subject to satisfactory periodic applicable background checks
    d. Regular and predictable onsite attendance and reliable transportation are required during the scheduled hours for this position.
    e. Physically capable of lifting and carrying supplies, up to 30 pounds
    f. Ability to occasionally move about inside the residential housing facility, including navigating stairs and ramps. Ability to perform the responsibilities of this role on site at all HSI facilities.
    g. Clarity of vision at close and long range.
    h. Mental Health Care and/or administrative experience is a plus
    i. Flexible schedule is a plus.
