Director, Strategy, Business Development & New Product Planning

Location: Parsippany

Summary:

This position is a key member of the US Strategy, Business Development & New Product Planning team.The incumbent will 1) lead the scouting, searching, screening, and initial evaluation of new external opportunities in Ferring's priority therapeutic areas, 2) lead the commercial and financial assessment of new in-bound and out-bound BD projects to drive external opportunities forward through governance bodies to decision point(s), and 3) be the commercial lead for pre-launch internal pipeline candidates until successful handover to launch team.In addition, the incumbent will contribute to portfolio strategy, deal negotiations and the transactions process as needed.

Responsibilities:

Serve as the overall project leader for external business development opportunities (both in-bound and out-bound) and as the commercial lead for internal R&D pipeline candidates. Lead commercial assessments of external business development opportunities and internal R&D pipeline candidates, ii) integrate all dimensions of such opportunities to assess overall risks and opportunities and provide clear deliverables and recommendations, and iii) lead the search and screening for new business development opportunities in Ferring's priority therapeutic areas.

Complete commercial and financial assessments including:
Market sizing (epidemiology, patient flow and physician specialties involved, current medical practices, available treatments and unmet needs, clinical guidelines, pricing/reimbursement/discounting/rebating, environment, etc.)
Competitive assessment (existing products, candidates in development, competitor strategies, etc.)
Factoring in Manufacturing, IP and Regulatory input obtained from internal experts.
Forecasting (full epi model, target product profiles, market share model, sales uptake, pricing etc.)
Determining business resource requirements and in collaboration with Finance, building out full P&L; Modelling deal terms and NPV.
Summarizing findings and recommendations for project updates, high-quality executive presentations and due diligence reports.

Articulate and summarize strategic deal rationale, commercial case, financials, risks, challenges, opportunities and mitigation strategies in a clear, concise and thorough manner through reports and high-quality presentations. Compose all key documents and presentations required for advancing the project through internal governance bodies.
Provide crucial commercial insights and recommendations to clinical development projects shaping the future US business through successful new product introductions.
In collaboration with Commercial, Medical and other key functions, design, oversee and interpret primary market research, using external firms as needed.
In collaboration with Medical & Clinical, design, lead and interpret KOL advisory boards.
In collaboration with Due Diligence and Finance, lead the commercial and financial portion of business development due diligence projects.
Judiciously involve the US BU heads, keeping them informed while being respectful of their priorities to manage the business.
Due to the inherent uncertain nature of such business development and new product planning projects, the incumbent will demonstrate the ability to work with a high degree of ambiguity, shifting assumptions, differing points of views, and lack of validated information sources.
Learn new products and indications, identifying information sources, leveraging internal and external experts, and effectively working with cross-functional teams.
Perform other tasks, duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree (or equiv.) in Science or Business, Ph.D preferred.
MBA preferred.
10+ years in a commercial or finance function required.
Solid pharma or biotech experience required.
Expertise in US market access and conducting market and KOL research.
Global experience (processes, multi-cultural awareness, communication style) preferred.
Comfortable interacting with all levels of management and global teams/functions.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Management of multiple parallel projects at different stages.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Powerpoint and Excel.
Finding and leveraging industry data sources.
Experience with P&Ls and financial modelling.
Working across functions and with external consultants.
Wide range of knowledge across commercial, financial, R&D, manufacturing, IP, regulatory, medical and market access aspects in the drug development industry.
Travel up to 20%- domestic and international.
