Mission

The Arc, Warren County Chapter, Inc. is dedicated to helping people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities to live a good life--one where they have a chance to fulfill their potential, make choices, be as independent as possible, work, make friends and otherwise blend into society. We are also committed to assisting families to solve the challenges associated with the care of their family members with such disabilities. As an advocacy organization, we work to create the kind of society where the people we serve are accepted and respected.

History

The Arc, Warren County Chapter was founded in 1954 by parents, educators, and other interested individuals who recognized the need for s comprehensive program of service and support for their children who had mental retardation.

The Arc today serves more than 1,100 people annually. This number includes persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and their family members. Countywide programs include community living arrangements, recreation, supported employment, family support, advocacy, early intervention, and a wide range of social services.

The Arc in Warren County is part of a state and national Arc network of providers who offer quality services and programs to more than 3 million people in the United States each year.

Funding for Arc programs is made available through the New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), the New Jersey Department of Human Services, the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services (Project First Step), the Warren County Board of Chosen Freeholders, The United Way of Warren County, and through private and corporate donations.

Responding to the need for specialized physicians available to our population, we helped spearhead the creation of a local developmental disabilities medical clinic at Coventry Family Practice in Phillipsburg in October 1997. Thanks to a collaboration involving the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Coventry Family Practice, DDD, and The Arc, we now have a community clinic that is capable of dealing with a wide variety of unique medical conditions and diagnoses. We also have available to our consumers a dental clinic that specializes in treating people with intelletctual and developmental disabilities, Adaptive Dental, in Phillipsburg, NJ.
