Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Have a comprehensive understanding of the coding, coverage and payment components of assigned product lines within Zimmer Biomets portfolio. Identify and address payer reimbursement barriers to market access for Zimmer Biomet products, including contracts, medical/pharmacy coverage/reimbursement/payment policies, pharmaceutical formulary position, authorization/approval mechanisms and requirements and health technology assessments. Serve as a liaison and consultant to field sales representatives and healthcare practitioner (HCP) customers on reimbursement matters utilizing a coordinated team approach. Attain and coordinate meetings with payers principal policy decision makers (medical directors, pharmacy directors, clinical and reimbursement policy department heads, etc.) to allow Zimmer Biomet to engage them on updating policies to reflect current standards of care related to Zimmer Biomets product portfolio. With management direction, negotiate contractual agreements and navigate credentialing processes with government and private payers in the health insurance and workers compensation insurance arenas to open new sources of business for Zimmer Biomet products. Improve reimbursement rates for Zimmer Biomet technologies by reviewing and then addressing less than optimal payment levels with appropriate personnel within a payer organization. Provide educational courses on Zimmer Biomets products to utilization review/case management/claims personnel and/or other representatives of payers. Provide advanced information to educate payers in order for them to make favorable, timelier approval decisions on Zimmer Biomet products. May also collaborate on development of payer seminars in conjunction with other Zimmer Biomet functional teams and HCPs. Monitor trends regarding health policy, healthcare reform and other emerging reimbursement matters within the assigned territory. Monitor Medicaid and workers compensation legislation at state levels, and prepare solutions to any barriers to market access or coverage associated with those entities. Provide overall market intelligence to senior management. Provide analysis and guidance and support to sales management on opportunities for sales growth from a reimbursement perspective. Serve as subject matter expert on the healthcare industry, its policy and practices as they relate to the Zimmer Biomet product portfolio and reimbursement topics. Facilitate the review, setup and implementation of wholesale opportunities with physician practices and other healthcare entities in the assigned territory. Meet or exceed quotas for required activities designed to drive Zimmer Biomet business in partnership with the field sales organization. Assist with special projects and such other duties as assigned.
Expected Areas of Competence
Health insurance, pharmaceutical and/or hospital contracting experience preferred. Ability to discuss clinical, health economic and reimbursement material comfortably. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to multi-task and to change focus and to prioritize as business needs adjust. Must have solid computer skills and be proficient using the following: Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; the Internet and a CRM system such as Must have a valid drivers license in good standing and valid automobile insurance.
Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelors degree (B.A or B.S.) from four-year college or university or equivalent work experience. Market access, reimbursement or managed care account experience (5- years of directly related experience) with a track record of success in meeting or, preferably, exceeding established objectives within medical device, pharmaceutical, biotech or durable medical equipment industry
Travel Requirements
Must be able to travel 25% overnight travel as required.
