Job Description

 

Responsible for planning, coordinating and leading highway and railroad bridge inspections on conventional and complex structures throughout the State of New Jersey. Complete engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design, and delivery with minimal direction. Prepare and complete discipline engineering efforts that are responsive to project needs. Coordinates preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas. Complete engineering project elements such as reports, designs, specifications, and plans. Coordinate and ensure productivity of team members. Provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers. Work closely with other disciplines and multi-discipline projects. Review previous inspection reports and information. Schedule and coordinate field operations with subcontractors and subconsultants. Perform and oversee the field inspection of conventional and complex bridge structures as an Inspection Team Leader. Lead team members in field and office tasks. Identify critical findings during field inspections. Document inspection findings including the collection of measurements, development of field sketches, and collection of digital photography. Operate personnel lift equipment, climb ladders, install traffic control devices and other work in support of inspection activities. Prepare inspection proposals including the development of scopes and hour estimates. Exhibit strong technical writing skills through the preparation of engineering reports documenting inspection findings. Perform load rating calculations, structural analysis and prepare CADD drawings as needed. Position requires performing continuous field work including working at heights and in confined places, carrying ladders and gear, working in adverse weather conditions, etc. Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and at least five years of related field experience. Alternatively, they employer will require a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering plus at least three years of related field experience. Professional Engineering Licensure required in the states of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Related experience must be in bridge inspection and load rating experience. Related experience must include bridge inspection experience of major bridges, complex bridges, railroad bridges, and ancillary structures. Related experience must also include: Successful completion of the FHWA National Highway Institute's 2-week training course "Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges" and 5 year refresher as needed; Successful completion of the FHWA National Highway Institute's 4-day training course "Fundamentals of LRFR and Applications of LRFR for Bridge Superstructures" within the last 5 years; National Highway Institute Course Certification 130055, 130078, 130092, and 130087; OSHA 10 HR Certification; Working with state and local transportation agencies; Microsoft Office Suite; AASHTOWare’s Bridge Rating (BrR) software; InspectTech/Coimbis/Assetwise; AutoCAD; MicroStation. Regional Travel may be required up to 10% of the time to assist in bridge inspections.
