Cloud is at the center of Pfizer Digital's mission to accelerate business innovation and pursue breakthroughs that change patients' lives. This role is an opportunity to feature prominently in that regard, driving outcomes that have real impact for our colleagues and the people we serve.
The Cloud Solutions Engineering Lead is responsible for the design, engineering, operationalization, and continuous improvement of Pfizer's global portfolio of cloud hosting solutions. This role is a subject matter expert in the field of cloud technologies with a broad range of general IT knowledge in a global and diverse enterprise setting.
The role will have primary engineering responsibility over Pfizer's bimodal cloud solution architecture, inclusive of the Cloud Brokerage product aimed at traditional and transitional enterprise workloads, and RAPID which is designed specifically to enable modern, cloud-native workloads. The candidate will lead solution designs for both areas, covering a variety of cloud service provider (CSP) solutions inclusive of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
Functionally, this role will lead the qualification of new cloud solution patterns, ensuring strict adherence to defined security and compliance requirements and fit-for-use while managing the transition of ongoing support for these new patterns to the Digital Command Operations team within EP&S (fit-for-purpose). The role will also be accountable for the lifecycle management of engineered patterns, ensuring the ongoing durability of the products in-use. In this regard, the lead is expected to maintain strong relationships with all technology providers to relentlessly pursue improvements that extract the greatest amount of value for Pfizer.
The ideal candidate will challenge traditional norms within the Pfizer infrastructure environment and bias heavily towards a software-defined paradigm that results in all infrastructure being delivered as code via lightweight, repeatable, scalable, and cost-efficient designs. Strong partnerships are expected with key domain areas within EP&S including supporting product teams (e.g., Operating System, Network, Database) and service areas (e.g., Global Information Security, Compliance) and with teams outside of EP&S including Digital Architecture and the Digital Creation Centers.
This position requires the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop, and coach others, and oversee & guide the work of colleagues and contractors to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business value.

Services will encompass traditional and transitional private cloud and modern, public cloud and span IaaS and PaaS capabilities across a variety of cloud service providers.
Lead designs that are "fit-for-purpose" and wholly and efficiently deliver the outcomes that are required by the customers (e.g., Creation Centers). Maintain strict alignment to established security and compliance guidelines in the qualification of new engineering solutions.
Ensure that designs are "fit-for-use" and achieve not only the desired outcomes but deliver an experience that is delightful (fast and easy). Manage the transition of engineered solutions to steady-state operations (Digital Command Operations) and ensure support viability through appropriate Confluence-based documentation, effective handovers, training, and assistance as required.
Apply a DevSecOps approach to engineering that embeds security into each design, utilizes a defined and standardized pipeline for code release, makes significant use of automation particularly in testing, and biases towards repeatability and ease of go-forward maintenance.
Maintain technical ownership over Pfizer's Cloud Service Provider (CSP) account structure and define and manage the organizational policies in accordance with Hosting Security and Compliance teams. Establish a framework that enables maximum scalability while also ensuring ease of management.
Partner closely with EP&S Secure Network Services (SNS) in the architectural design of cloud networking capabilities including (but not limited to) name space design, direct connect architecture, transit gateway and load balancing. Continuously evaluate the health of our capabilities while assessing new features that may offer an improved experience. Work with SNS to lead any cloud-oriented networking improvements and ensure the ongoing health and stability of our environment through those improvement events.
