Job Description



The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Director, Alliance Management, are to:

Oversee multiple significant development and / or commercial strategic alliances and collaborations with a wide range of industry partners;
Become familiar with the major issues relating to all strategic alliances and collaborations within the purview of the Oncology Alliance Management function;
Launch new alliance kick-off and integration activities for alliances within the incumbent's purview;
Serve as the key interface between Bayer and partners on matters of governance, contractual and Business Development topics;
Monitor all aspects of alliances and collaborations and identify issues, risks and conflicts, escalating them as needed and drive issue alignment and resolution with internal and external decision makers;
Manage major operational issues relating to alliances and collaborations within the incumbent's purview;
Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of each alliance and collaboration contract, and in collaboration with key business partners (legal, finance, IP), provide strategic and tactical guidance on contractual obligations including suggesting recommended actions to fulfil the contractual obligations of Bayer and the partner;
Support business development activities;
Cultivate a partnering mindset within the Oncology SBU through outreach, training and other resources;
Be accountable for compliance with divisional and corporate Bayer governance standards;
Have familiarization with industry best practice and ongoing evolution of Alliance Management function/activities;
Perform such other tasks assigned by the Head of Business Development and Strategic Alliances / Oncology.

Required Qualifications:

Advanced degree in science, medicine, business or law;
A minimum of 10 years of total business experience;
An equivalent combination of business and experience can satisfy thisrequirement;
Broad experience in global and regional pharma/biotech, strategic alliances and other commercial transactions from alliance management, business development and / or legal perspectives;
Understand how alliances work and be able to adopt and apply Bayer's partnering principles and best alliance management practices;
Possess the ability and flexibility to adapt to and work effectively within cultural differences in both managing staff and interacting with business leaders and other organizations throughout the world;
Excellent verbal and communication skills (particularly in English), including the ability to listen effectively, persuasive negotiation skills, coalition build, manage conflict when necessary and the ability to communicate both strategic and technical issues to individuals and in presentations to groups;
Strong organizational and facilitation skills, both working as an individual and as part of several different teams close enough to understand the major issues but sufficiently distant to keep a sense of perspective and balance, especially that of a partner;
Strong familiarity interpreting contracts and material contractual obligations and ability to synthesize the practical impact for the internal teams;
Strong strategic and critical thinking skills in dealing with abstract concepts and long-term time horizons;
Able to work in an arena where there is high ambiguity;
Able to recommend courses of action involving considerable risk, justifying assumptions about risks and potential rewards.
